Who you’re buying from

Adopt A Laptop is a trade name of Softseer LLC, a Connecticut limited liability company. “We” and “us” below mean Softseer LLC.

What we sell

Used, off-lease business computers. Every machine is described individually, the unit page shows that specific machine’s measured condition, not a representative example. Where a photo shows a mark, that’s the mark on the machine you’ll receive.

These are used goods. We test them thoroughly and describe them honestly; we don’t represent them as new, and we aren’t affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by Lenovo, Dell, HP, Microsoft, or any other manufacturer. Product names are their owners’ trademarks and are used only to identify what a machine is.

Quantity

Every listing is a single machine. Once it’s adopted it’s gone, there is no second one behind it. Machines are also listed on eBay, so occasionally one sells in both places within the same few minutes. If that happens we refund the later order the same day and tell you straight away.

Prices and payment

Prices are in US dollars and exclude sales tax, which is calculated at checkout where applicable. Payment is processed by Stripe. Your order is accepted when payment completes and we send confirmation, not when the checkout page loads.

If a machine is listed at an obviously wrong price because of an error on our side, we’ll cancel and refund rather than pretend it was intentional.

Software and licensing

Where a machine ships with Windows, it’s activated using the OEM licence embedded in that machine’s firmware, which legitimately transfers with the hardware. Where no such licence exists, the unit page says so and the machine ships without an operating system. We don’t transfer corporate volume licences, because they aren’t transferable.

Every drive is erased before resale. Nothing from the previous owner is on the machine, and the certificate in the box records how the erase was done and verified.

Returns and warranty

30-day returns on everything, and 30 days of post-adoption care on direct orders. Those pages are part of these terms.

Limits

Our liability for any order is limited to what you paid for it. We’re not liable for lost data, lost work, or lost income arising from a machine, keep backups, as you would with any computer. Nothing here limits liability that can’t be limited by law, and none of it affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut.
